Lessons learned from new workplace electrical safety stats
In early 2025, Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) released updated electrical injury and fatality stats (2011-2023). Check it out here.
We wanted to quickly share our thoughts and summarize some key points of data as we saw some important learnings shine through:
Lesson #1: Electrical Hazards are everywhere and should capture everyone’s attention! Surprisingly, 74% of electrical fatalities were in non-electrical jobs. Painters, roofers, laborers – if you're on a job site, you're at risk. Electrical safety isn't just for electricians.
Lesson #2: Construction Remains High Risk. The construction industry sees the most electrical fatalities. Working around power lines, temporary wiring, and equipment means constant vigilance is required. These sites are also a revolving door of 3rd party companies, so hazards may change daily. Stay on guard.
Lesson #3: Awareness Saves Lives. Many incidents stem from accidental contact. As ESFI's Daniel Majano stresses, "always be aware." Check for overhead power lines and energized points. Know when to call in for help.
Lesson #4: Training is Crucial for All. The high number of non-electrical workers injured, often without specific safety training, highlights a critical gap. If your work brings you near electricity, even occasionally, ask your management team if you can get training.
What do we think of all this…
well electrical safety is everyone's responsibility. Get your workers trained as an even little more education can save lives.
